A new coach, and five returning seniors, this might be the recipe for Cotter volleyball success.

The volleyball team kicked off the 2017 season with a win at La Crescent in four sets. Senior libero Mari Crowley led the way with 48 digs, helping give her first year head coach her first win.

Laurie Broghammer, the new coach at Cotter, has high hopes for this year’s team.

“Our goal this is to compete in every match”, Broghammer said.  Broghammer was previously an assistant coach for the Ramblers for the  last couple of years.

“The transition to head coach has been pretty smooth. I am fortunate enough to have great assistants, and of course, Mr Haun and A (A. Getzin), to help out with administrative stuff.”

The volleyball team’s senior leaders have played with each other for a long time. One senior captain, Mallory Cunningham thinks this is a key to success.

“We have very good chemistry, and our goal is to win some games and have fun, ” Cunningham said.

“Our season has started better than we expected, with  good senior leadership and strong individuals playing as a team,” added senior Aspen Jerowski.

The Cotter will be at home for a tournament on Saturday, September 9.
