Lacrosse club has strong Cotter presence
The Winona lacrosse team is about to roll into their fourth year as a club team. The team, led by CHS senior Henry Reilly, needs new guys to step up, as they lost six seniors last year.
Coach Jack Kielty is starting to settle in to his job as head coach, this is his third year as head coach. Key players accompanying Reilly will be mid- fielder Peter Kauphusman, mid-fielder Andrew Arnold, and Defenseman Josh Salwey.
The biggest challenge for Reilly and Co. will certainly be goaltending. Reilly said that stick skills, and communication will be keys to the season. Kauphusman said effort and stamina will bring them back to state.
The lacrosse team hopes to be in the MSHSL Varsity Lacrosse League soon, but is currently being barred because of Title 9. All home games are played at Paul Giel Field. The first game for Reilly and Co. is Sunday, April 9.
“It’s going to be a really tough year with a lot of people being graduated, but we’re not using that as an excuse. I’m going to pick up the slack and try to lead this team back to glory,” Reilly said.
