Science Fair returns with strong competition this year.

The hall of the newly renovated John Nett Center was buzzin,g not with athletes and fan,s but young scientists, teachers, parents, and judges at this year’s junior high science fair.

On January 29,  seventh and eighth graders were dressed up and displaying their posters to impress the judges. There were  lots of different and cool science experiments to view.  The projects can take them from five hours to  two weeks or more to complete..

They don’t always complete their projects on their own though, sometimes they need a little help from their parents. Their parents help either with designing the experiment itself or perhaps  just helping cut and glue papers on their poster boards.

The judges of the science fair are all volunteers Winona, but from outside of the school, and they often have a career connected to a field in science.. Many of the judges are from Saint Mary’s University and are professors or researchers and are interested in encouraging students interest in science.

Natalie Marg, a seventh grader,  participating in the science fair said, ”I think the science fair is a lots of fun and I can’t wait to do another project next year.”

Mrs Wilzbacher,  eighth grade English teacher, said while observing the posters that she was proud of the kids and that they looked professional.

The science fair is an annual event and gives kids a great opportunity to show the community what they are capable of.
