Strelow Receives Team Vogel Award

Team Vogel continues to pay it forward at Cotter.

On Thursday, Jan 30, Cotter held a school wide assembly. Kristin Biesanz, representing Team Vogel, presented the annual scholarship given to a Cotter student.

Kristin, Cotter class of ‘96, was a classmate of Joe Vogel, the founder and namesake of the organization. Joe was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. In memory of his passing in 2010, Joe’s family, friends, and co-workers created a “Pay it Forward” scholarship for people attending Cotter.

To apply, students are asked to write a one page essay on how they “Pay it Forward,” they also need to give two letters of recommendation, one from a staff member, and one from a community member. The applicants are allowed to turn in their essays beginning in October with a closing date in December. At that time Team Vogel has a committee that selects a winning recipient who best reflects the pay it forward philosophy.

To Team Vogel, and Kristin, the best fitting candidate for this award was Alex Strelow.

At the assembly, Kristin stated that the award being given was to inspire everyone to be a part of the Team Vogel dream and experience.

Everyone at the assembly was invited to participate in some of Team Vogel’s events that are held throughout the year to raise money for selected families. To learn more about Team Vogel’s mission, and Joe’s story, visit their website at www.teamvogelvscancer.org.
