Sophia Wang comes out swinging

A new country, a new school, a new language, and a (sort of) new sport — none of these are slowing down freshman Sophia Wang

Yihong Wang, whose English name is Sophia, is from Beijing, China. She is 15 years old.

She is the only child in her family and enjoys helping her mother cook and sharing their dishes with her family.

When she was in China, a friend of hers, who graduated from Cotter, talked about the experience here and recommended her to attend. As a girl who likes to experience different cultures and meet more interesting people, Sophia decided to enroll at Cotter as a freshman, with high confidence in the benefits of an American classic education. She is not afraid of leaving home and is ready to succeed at Cotter.

Sophia describes herself as interesting and friendly. She believes that her personality has helped her to made new friends at Cotter. She enjoys the time when she and her friends sang and recorded songs at the dorm.

Sophia’s favorite sports is tennis. Currently, she is one of the JV tennis team members, and has learned tennis for almost a year in China.

She loves the process of the training, even though she feels tired. She likes the sound of tennis balls hitting the racket. She also enjoys volleyball, and she may decide to join the volleyball team next year.

Sophia is ready to make the most of her experience at Cotter.
