Arctic Monkeys Drop Successful Album

The latest album dropped by the L.A. based band Arctic Monkeys, AM, gives listeners a unique indie-rock alternative blend. Released on September 9th, 2013, more than 157,000 copies had been sold in just one week.

Arctic Monkeys started as a English indie Rock band in 2002. AM is their fifth album, following  Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (2006), Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009). Although their original roots are in indie-rock, the Arctic Monkeys switch each album up to give different sounds and attract a different audience to their already strong fan base.

Fans of The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, and The Kooks will all find comfort in the tracks similar to already loved tunes. So far, the band has won five Brit Awards, won Best Album in the MOJO Awards, been nominated for the Grammys,  AM will surely put them in the running for more.

Many longed for the featuring of other musicians in the new album. Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age made an appearance along with Pete Thomas and Bill Ryder-Jones. Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford had produced.

AM’s tracks are all unique, each able to stand on their own, as well as a cohesive album. The track Do I Wanna Know?, blends hypnosis with terrific guitar riffs courtesy of guitarist Jamie Cook. Mad Sounds is a calming lullaby ballad with a powerful melody. Closing song I Wanna Be Yours even features a few lines written by John Cooper Clarke, a punk poet.

The music video accompanying Do I Wanna Know? involves hypnotic waves and detailed animations dancing in synchronization with each note.
