Boys Basketball Ready for Three Rivers
The Cotter boy’s basketball has positive energy and an optimisitic outlook heading into the season.
The team graduated three starters from last year’s team, Jon Eichman, John DeMarais, and Charlie Kretchmer.
Key returners for the 2013-2014 year are Garrett Crowley, Kyle Kerrigan, and Matthew Schrupp. The team will also benefit with the addition of the Forst brothers, who are now eligilbe after sitting out due to the Minnesota State High School League transfer rule.
Garrett Crowley is a familiar face in the lineup, a varsity player since he was a freshman, Garrett’s experience will be counted on to direct the offense from the point guard position.
Matt Schrupp, who has been playing with Garrett since eighth grade,adds speedm good size and athleticism to the mix. The third senior, Caleb Forst, will be playing varsity for the first time. Caleb is a good scorer who plays with a lot of energy.
Kyle Kerrigan is another returning starter. The team’s only true post, Kyle wil have to dominate in the middle for the Ramblers to be consistent winners. Josh Forst is another junior who, like his brother, can deliver scoring punch.
Other players who will be counted on for contributions are senior Joseph Tlougan, juniors Henry Killen, Colin Duellman, sophomore Jonah Spiten.. Bench depth will be provided by
Matt Masyga, Cory Beyer, Jacob Modjeski, Carter Cunningham, Marcus Kuhlmann
The boys basketball team finished 15-12 overall last year in the 2012-2013 season. Crowley states that, “We are looking forward to a good year now that we will be Three Rivers Conference.” Crowely was the second leading scorer with a 9.2 ppg average.
Mr. David Jewison will be entering his sixth season as head coach. Mr. Jewison has a career record of 55-78. Mr. Jewison had this to say about the team, “We are quick and have a good amount of team speed. We have good team chemistry so far. We could struggle on the boards with our relative lack of size, we will need to work hard in that area”.
The team looks forward to its first year in the Three Rivers conference, which will mean more games within 30 minutes of Winona and the hope of developing some local rivalries.
The basketball team will start off with their home opener Friday, November 21, against Lewiston-Altura Cardinal at the Cotter Gym. Tip-off is at 7:30,
