Nate Fisher interview: sharing common voices
Minneapolis film director Nate Fisher interviewed by Anna Morgan, Maddie Kohner, Madeline Mohan and Annie Galke at the Frozen River Film Festival at Stark Hall, Winona State University, February 28, 2016.
The interview preceded the showing of Iraqi Voices, a series of short films shot by Mr. Fisher. According to the FRFF program, “the films are written and directed by Iraqi-Americans in the Twin Cities and are photographed and edited by Nathan Fisher. In the midst of increasing violence in Iraq, reconciliation work between the people of Iraq and America is needed more than ever. In Iraq, ordinary citizens are peacefully protesting, demanding accountability from their public servants and the provision of basic services such as water and electricity. In Minnesota, Iraqis integrating into local communities want to introduce themselves on their own terms.”
The films tell the personal stories of Iraqis living in the Twin Cities. There was strong turnout for the showing and, following the screening, a spirited and wide ranging Q & A discussion was led by Mr. Fisher and several of the directors of the films.
