Cotter: The Musical
Cotter, a school, a community, a musical? YES!
The idea for a musical started when teacher Mike Donlin attended a play several years ago with popular songs being used to tell the story. Donlin thought, “ I could do that!” After that the production and coming together of the play started. The show is set at the 100 year school reunion for Cotter High School. “It is meant to share who we are at Cotter and where we have been, ” Mark Roeckers said.
The musical will showcase some familiar tunes with changed lyrics to fit the setting of the play. Some of the songs included are, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “Embraceable You”, “Thanks for the Memory”, and “O Danny Boy.” The only set characters in the play is the principal, who will be played by Mrs. Blank.
Roeckers also said “I hope the audience will enjoy the fact that most of the cast is made up of faculty, staff and administration of Cotter and that is just meant to be fun. It puts a little perspective on some of the changes over the years….from all boy school…..students being sent off to war……moving to a new campus…..adding a dorm. The show really shares the story of “Cotter.”
Cotter the Musical has rehearsal every day after school and are working hard for a great performance. Their first showing is September 19th, during homecoming week.
