Skating into New Territory

Sporting an infamous number 5, Mary Arnold, currently the only Cotter girls representative for the WSHS girl’s hockey, team is taking strides on and off the ice to perform better for the team and developing herself to become a better hockey player.

The Girl’s hockey team is split between JV and Varsity levels, with Varsity’s current record at 0-20-1 it is a bit of a struggling season. However, the team is committed and bettering themselves as a team to push through that adversity.img_2349 (1)

Mary Arnold is adjusting to hockey, as this is her 1st year playing the sport, “It’s really difficult to begin and get used to [skating] but once you start to grasp it, it starts to feel almost natural”

Arnold, having played in a variety of spots, considers one of the Wing positions to be her favorite. “Honestly I like being aggressive and scoring, and being left or right wing allows me to do that.”

As the only Cotter girl to be a part of the Girl’s hockey program, Arnold works to represent Cotter as best as she can through “Working hard, playing hard, and promoting good sportsmanship on and off the ice.”

Mary has fit really well into the program, as she has become a well-liked member of the locker room.

Mary Arnold has fit into the team like a puzzle piece, and albeit being inexperienced she finds the sport to be exhilarating and fun. “I look forward to continuing the sport next year and improving my skills.”

With the Girl’s season coming to a close, the Varsity girls are preparing for the upcoming playoffs. If you’re interested in seeing some good hard hockey then coming out and supporting the team is a must!
