Can You Dig It? Volleyball Team Coming Together

Volleyball for the Cotter girls this season has, as captains Beth Parlin, Mikala Nelton, and Kirsten Weifenbach claim, been going very well.

“We have good team chemistry and a lot of good potential for the years to come,” said Weifenbach.

They have been doing much better this year than in the past.  The team is currently working on speeding up offense, ball control, and finishing out hits.

“It is really good whenever we can confuse the defense and they don’t have enough time to get a block up on a quick set or hit,” Parlin commented.

The girls have been working very well together and always goes into a game thinking that it is the hardest team they will face so as to not lose focus. The time everyone puts in is really showing.

“Our record isn’t the best, but in the games we have played, we have put our full effort in and everyone plays up to their full potential,” Nelton said.

“A moment that has stood out in the season for me is remembering everyone’s emotions after losing in 5 to Caledonia. Coach brought up that it really hit him that we can win any game since we care so much,” Parlin.

“Going to Mabel-Canton and having to play about 18 games in a day would be a stand out moment for me just because we were all so tired by the end of the day, but we had to finish the last match to go home as a team and I think we really grew together that day,” added Kirsten.

The team all has good playing experience and smarts, but when they put their heart into it as well, they can really play a good game.

They have a “Dig Pink” game on the night of October 6 that is a cancer awareness fundraiser.  They are also looking forward to their homecoming game and other home games in general.

“Home games are great because the fan section is really energetic and helps us get pumped as well. It’s really nice support of them.,” added Weifenbach.

“Every game is exciting to have the fans cheering us on.”
