Girls tennis starting to gel

The girls tennis team is halfway through a season that is showing challenge and growth.

“The season is going pretty well.” Coach Blake Duden said.

They are 5-6 on the season with seven matches remaining in the regular season.

“Each match can be better than the last time.” Yexin Li (Cindy) said.

The girls have improved by leaps and bounds since the start of the season and they are having a lot of fun together.

“My favorite moment from this season is having dinner at Pizza Ranch after match with Stewartville, ” junior  Yoo-Jin Koo (Laura) said. The team is enjoying the social aspect of the season.

They have already faced most of their conference opponents but they are looking forward to play key opponents.  One match that stands out is  with Lourdes on Thursday, October 1.

Also, the conference schedule has the girls facing each league opponent twice, which gives Coach Duden the opportunity to switch the lineup the second time through the schedule.
The team has had several great moment already this season. They are learning to play together as a team and trust each other in doubles competitions. One time, being down a few varsity players for various reasons during the game, Choco Li and Jisu Kim played a strong match and earned a 4-3 victory for Cotter.

Singles play has been a strength of the team. Cindy Li, Kylie Modjeski, Sammy Knight, Erin Getzin, Jisu Kim, Choco Li and Hannah Graff all have been successful and currently have a 26-18 record in singles this year.

“One time, I had to play singles, instead of doubles, I was afraid to play alone, but luckily, I won the game and I was really happy!!” Jin-Young Kang ( Erica) said, who is new student and in her first year of tennis.

The enthusiasm and growth will be tested, perhaps with a few more post match meals this team will reach its season goals.
