St. Joseph’s Chapel Moves Downstairs

The Dedication Ceremony takes place at the new Cotter chapel.

Cotter has a new, more spacious chapel, which welcomed Bishop Quinn for the official dedication ceremony on Wednesday, September 18. The Saint Joseph chapel, previously located on the third floor by the skyway entrance, is now on first floor in the space previously occupied by HBC offices.

Before students were back in school, WACS and Cotter staff gathered for the first mass in the new space. Religion classes are already taking advantage of St. Joseph’s Chapel location.

“We visited the first week [of school]. We also took advantage of the air conditioning in the second warm week,” says Mary Hansel Parlin, “but I miss the third floor chapel because it was so close to the classrooms.”

The chapel is named for the patron saint of Cotter. The new location is air conditioned, so the space was in demand when temperatures were in the 90’s the first two weeks of school. The new locations is much larger than the third floor chapel.

Hansel Parlin commented, “I like how large the new chapel is. It has better colors and more room for prayer.”

Religion classes visit two times a month and a weekly mass is held every Friday morning before school.
