Softball loses rematch on Senior Night

Alex Strelow, Kelly Vaselaar, and Kate Duellman played their final regular season game at Bowlin field on Tuesday night.

Unfortunately, Caledonia did not allow these senior girls to celebrate the event with a victory, as the Warriors eked out a 3-1 decision, avenging an earlier 1-0 loss to Cotter in Caledonia.

Cotter broke the scoreless tie in the fourth by pushing a run across, but was answered by a run for Caledonia in the sixth.  Caledonia proceeded to score two more in the seventh, and shut down the Ramblers offense to end the game.

On the rubber for the Ramblers, was the young Isabelle Northrop, who pitched all 7 innings, while only giving up the three runs.

“We had good pitching and we did better at getting the bat on the ball,” stated senior Kelly Vaselaar, “last time we played them we struck out 18 time.”  Caledonia’s Samantha Bratland is one of the outstanding pitchers in the region.

This was the first conference loss for the lady Ramblers all season long, proving one thing: they are not a team to be messed with.  Their record now stands at a conference best 13-1 in conference (14-2 overall).

A team cannot excel without good leadership, which the seniors have provided.  This leadership has set them in a great spot, where they could clinch the conference with a win in their next two games. The softball team has many thanks to grant this year’s senior girls.
