Tennis takes down Logan in tight match
It was double trouble for Logan high tennis team.
Cotter boys tennis won a hard fought 4-3 victory in La Crosse on Tuesday, May 14.
The Cotter High School boys tennis team defeated Lourdes in Rochester this past Tuesday.
Sophomore Ryan Ortega and junior Sang Hyuk Lee both won their single sets with Ortega winning 6-3, 6-1 dominant fashion at #1 singles.
After Tim DeMarais and Mike Deng lost tough matches at #2 and #3 singles, and Brennan Schaffner and Jake Renk dropped a #1 doubles match, things looked tough for the Ramblers.
Seniors Eric Cho and Matthew Park, however, won their doubles match as did Junior Logan Spitzer and Sophomore Andre Russeau. The victory of Cho and Park proved to be the decisive match, breaking a 3-3 deadlock.
“I thought it was impressive that the three out of the four matches that went to three sets ended up winning” Ortega said. “It shows that the team is improving and showing mental toughness that should help us grow as a team.”
“The doubles teams really came through for us today,” said DeMarais. “Ryan seems to be winning all the time at #1, but it was very much a team effort today.”
Ortega is now the #10 ranked player in Minnesota Class A poll.
