First year of “Sounds Like School” goes smoothly
The first year of the Mid West Music Fest’s Sounds Like School initiative more than met expectations.
The MWMF Sounds Like School Initiative is a program that connects local students with various music acts throughout the year. It promotes music within the student community and provides a glimpse into the acts that will be performing during the main event in April.
The Education Committee of Mid West Music Fest scheduled different acts throughout the school year at the campuses of Winona State, Saint Mary’s, Riverhaven school and Cotter’s own St. Cecilia theater.
“One of the highlights was definitely the Jillian Rae and LOTT show at Cotter, it was another “idea” that exceeded expectations – seeing the students working and performing with the Twin Cities talent was not only a highlight of our Sounds Like School program, but a major highlight of the year for Mid West Music Fest” Parker Forsell, of MWMF said.
Sounds Like School hosted noontime events at the college campuses, most frequently of acts that would be playing later that night or weekend at live music venues in town.
Next year’s program hopes to continue working with Cotter, performing at the St. Cecelia theater, and other original partners.
