French foiled by ‘foul’ call
It’s going, going, going– foul ball!
Sam French was robbed of his first career home run in front of an estimated crowd of 50 people.
in the 4th inning of a home game against Caledonian, French stepped to the box looking to keep a rally alive. French caught a fastball and drilled it.
After contact, French recalls the ball headed directly toward the scoreboard in left field. “Then it hooked to the left,” stated French, “it looked like it was fair, but the umpire ruled it foul.”
French clearly was not pleased with the ruling. As he rounded first he threw up his arms and pointed at the ball in confusion.
Nobody watching had a very good angle, so it is hard to argue the umpires decision. The pitcher told French that the ump robbed him.
However, the controversial call did not have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. Cotter would go onto win the game 5-1. The Cotter Ramblers are back in action tonight as they host Fillmore-Central for a doubleheader, first pitch is at 3 o’clock at Cotter Fields.
