Elite Speed: Duellman Takes Title At Hamline Invite
Despite less than ideal conditions during last Friday’s Hamline Elite Meet, Colin Duellman tied a career best in the 100m and took home first place.
The meet pits the best of the best in the state up against each other. Coaches submit qualifying times and Colin was selected to participate based on his time of 11.05, his career best. “I wanted to go out and run fast,” said Duellman, “then I started to believe I could win.”
Colin was the only 100m runner from around the area to get an invite to the meet. When asked what it felt like to represent this part of the state, Duellman replied, “it made feel I had to have a good race, I enjoy representing my school.”
After the race, Duellman was told to throw a t-shirt into the crowd to celebrate the victory. The toss is a tradition for first place finishers, and Duellman didn’t disappoint. “I knew the throw was way too far, but I thought I should just let it fly,” explained Duellman, “after it left my hand I knew it was going straight to the ground.” It’s safe to say Colin isn’t going to be playing quarterback at Winona State next year.
At his previous meet, Duellman broke the 100m record held by former Rambler admissions director Will Gibson.
Only time will tell if Duellman can make a repeat appearance at the State meet, bu this performance suggests he has a legitimate shot at a title.
Colin is back in action on April 28 in Rushford.
