Kirkvold finding balance in Duluth

Kenny Kirkvold, a recent Cotter graduate, has been welcomed into the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s football program. He signed a letter of intent back in 2012 to become a Bulldog.

“I like Duluth a lot! It is a great place with lots of fun things going on,” stated Kirkvold. Kenny is majoring in mechanical engineering, a challenging task for a student-athlete.

Kenny insists he chose UMD for their excellent engineering programs, but football was also a huge selling point. “They have been one of the best in the nation for quite a few years now,” explained Kenny, “that was part of my decision.”

Kirkvold should be in line for some playing time this coming year, if he keeps developing . “It has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but very worth it,” stated Kirkvold. Kenny plays on the defensive line, where he recorded many tackles in a Rambler uniform.  Kirkvold played football, basketball, and track and field in his time at Cotter.

Kenny says he misses Cotter’s “family feel” and hanging out with old friends.  “I definitely miss that the most,” said Kenny. His  advice to current Cotter students: “Always work hard because the effort you put in will be worth it in the end.”
