Duo qualifies for State swim meet
Two Cotter students, junior Tyler Suman and senior Kyle Schneider, were part of a relay team that qualified for the State meet.
The meet took place at the University of Minnesota’s aquatic center. Swimming in the 200 freestyle relay,they matched skills with the state’s finest.
The team set their sights on making the finals andt were confident that they could advance. Despite their best efforts, the team fell short for qualifying and did not move onto the finals on Sunday.
”We raced well, but came up short,” Schneider said. Winona scored 19 points to place 28th out of 43 teams.
Prior to the meet, Cotter’s student body gathered in the foyer Thursday morning to send off \yler Suman and Kyle Schneider to the state swim meet this last weekend.
Team captain Schneider will never forget this season. Although the team didn’t make the finals, this season was nothing to hang their heads about.
“We had amazing team chemistry, and it pushed everyone to be better,” said Schneider, “we are proud of what we did this season, especially having the first winning season (4-3) in about 10 years.”
On top of a great season, Schneider lead his relay team to a new Winona Senior High pool record in the 200 free relay beating the old record by a full second.
