Ranking the Top 10 Potential Impact Players in Super Bowl XLIX
Who will be the impact players on Sunday? Here’s our list:
10. Patriots Offensive Line
The only way for the Patriots to win is for Tom Brady to have solid protection from the big guys up front. Protection from the Patriots line has been inconsistent this year, but they have showed up for the most part in big games. Tom Brady has been sacked 27 times this season, but only three of those sacks have come in the playoffs. This group of linemen seems to be playing it’s best football of the year at the right time.
9. Julian Edelman
Ever since the Patriots lost Wes Welker, a new face has stepped up into the slot. Julian Edelman is not Brady’s favorite target, but he is one that will catch the ball when it is thrown at him. Edelman has shown that he is an above average slot receiver, as well as end-around runner and punt returner. If the Seahawks put all their eggs into one basket by covering only Gronk, Edelman will surely burn them.
8. Bobby Wagner
Bobby Wagner is a major key to the successful Seahawks defense. Since coming on as a rookie, his role has increased. Wagner will be a major factor in run support and may end up covering Rob Gronkowski a few times throughout the game. Look for Wagner to be a field general for the Seahawks on Sunday.
7. Legarrette Blount
It’s amazing to think that one of the biggest players in the upcoming Super Bowl was a free agent in the middle of the year. The Patriots have found the answer to their running back position. With the huge game he had against the Colts, Blount has to be a huge focus for Seattle’s defense that is widely know to shut down the passing game. Look for the Patriots to lean on Blount for tough yards if the passing game struggles.
- Darrelle Revis/ Brandon Browner
This dynamic duo has been shutting down opposing receivers all year long. Both are seasoned veterans, as well as all-pro caliber defensemen. Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the Seahawks, threw four picks to an average Green Bay secondary. If Wilson is off once again, Revis and Browner will play a big role in this game.
5. Richard Sherman/ Earl Thomas/ Kam Chancellor
The “Legion of Boom” going up against one of the best quarterbacks in the league is a huge headline for Super Bowl XLIX. The combination of Sherman, Thomas, and Chancellor would have no problem handling New England’s wide receivers, if Tom Brady wasn’t playing. Brady elevates New England’s passing game to a point that has seemed unstoppable this year. If the Seahawks want to leave Arizona with a victory they will have to control New England’s passing attack.
4. Marshawn Lynch
Lynch will need to put his “beast mode” trademark to good use on Sunday, as he faces the Patriots. Once Lynch establishes the running game, Russell Wilson and the rest of the Seahawks offense will be able to open up the passing game. Lynch is the first step that the Seahawks need to make in order to win the Super Bowl.
3. Russell Wilson
The 26 year old speedster from Wisconsin is already looking for his 2nd career Super Bowl victory in just his 3rd NFL season. Wilson will need to be able to find his receivers throughout the game and capitalize when he can. A performance like last week against Green Bay will not cut it for Super Bowl sunday. He needs to make plays and execute every single down that the Seahawks are on offense.
2. Tom Brady
In his 15th NFL season, Tom Brady is looking for Super Bowl victory number 4. Including this year, Brady has been apart of the Super Bowl a total of 6 times. The NFL and its viewers have seen the intensity and drive that Brady brings to the game. He will play a key role in the turnout of Super Bowl XLIX. Since he is 37 years of age, the superstar quarterback has to be considering his options for the future. If the Pat’s come out victorious, will he come back?
-
Rob Gronkowski
Rob Gronkowski is the best tight end in the NFL and if he has his hands all over this game the Patriots will come away victorious. When “Gronk” is in the zone he challenges defenses and makes big time plays. He should go down as the MVP if he wants to cement his legacy when all is said and done.
