Cotter's First Annual Founder's Day: Small Cupcakes, Big Success

Students assembled in the St Cecilia auditorium on November 20, for the first annual Founders Day, celebrating Bishop Cotter, along with the life and history of the school dedicated in his name.

Sister Judith Schaefer opened the eyes of high school and junior high students to Cotter’s diverse history.  Starting with the humble beginnings of the original Cotter school for boys in 1911, who received their education from the De la Salle Christian Brothers. Sister Judy covered many of the most important events in Cotter’s history.

Students Leah Koll, Matthew Park, and Tyler Suman read a history that went along with the slideshow above.

Former Cotter principal, Fr. Macauley, gave a speech about how students should be as proud as he to represent Cotter’s spirit.

Sister Eleanor and Sister Christine of the Franciscan sisters, and Brother Frank Carr, and Cotter graduates Father Breza, and Steve Slaggie were also representing the key leaders at different points of Cotter’s history.

All the speakers were introduced by Sr. Judy, who explained how each group had stepped up to lead the school.  All speakers spoke of their fond memories connected to the school and how they are proud to be connected with Cotter and expressed hopes that the current students would do their best to carry on the school’s traditions of excellence in its second century.

The school sang Happy Birthday to Bishop Cotter on his 170th and cupcakes were served in the lobby before school let out for the day.
