Dig Pink: Volleyball team raises money for cancer patient

Can you dig it? Pink, that is.

On Thursday, October 9, Cotter  hosted its annual  “Dig Pink” night for the volleyball game against La Crescent.

substantial donations were obtained for this years recipient, Debbye Fihn.

The Cotter Volleyball team put on a fundraiser to help with the extreme costs of Debbie’s cancer treatments.  Throughout the night, baked goods were sold and families volunteered to help the Fihn family with meals.  Nearly $1500 in  cash and certificates were raised and 12 weeks of meals, (2 per week) were donated.

Monica Nelton played a major role in making sure the night went well.

“I cannot express how honored and proud I am of the effort put forth by this group of players, coaches, family members, and friends,” said Nelton. “You have all shown how we truly are a Cotter Family!”

As for the game, the Cotter volleyball team ended up sweeping the Lancers.

The 6th Man Mega-corps was in full force for the event.
“It was a fun environment to be in,” says Cotter fan Kyle Schneider, “The amount of Cotter pride and the color pink were substantial.”
Many students attended the event and as senior Henry Killen put it, “You pay for the whole seat, but you only needed the edge.”

According to the Side-out foundation’s website:

“Dig Pink® is the name of the Side-Out Foundation‘s national October breast cancer rally. A Dig Pink event can be organized at the local, county, city or state level, and it is supported by college and middle/high school volleyball coaches and teams as well as club coaches and teams. Proceeds benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing patient services to breast cancer patients and their families.”
