Killen, Schneider earn all Three Rivers honors
On Tuesday, October 16, , the Cotter cross country team competed in the the Three Rivers Conference Championships at the Root River Golf Course in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
Cotter finished third as a team and placed two runners in the top ten. Senior runners Henry Killen and Kyle Schneider placed 5th and 9th respectively, which earned them all-conference honors.
The varsity boys ran a 5000m race, or 5K (3.1 miles) course. Killen posted a solid time of 17.42.7 while Schneider came behind with a time of 18.23.9. The times were a bit slow due to a soft course and strong winds.
“For Henry, it was a strong finish for his senior year, and he’s looking to qualify for state next week at the section meet,” Cotter’s cross country coach Mike Costello said.
Costello then went on to talk about senior runner Kyle Schneider. “For Kyle, he ran as a 9th grader, but he is essentially a first year varsity runner. For him to make all conference is fantastic.”
As senior runners, Killen and Schneider can only think about qualifying for the state cross country meet. The section cross country meet is on Thursday October 23rd, at 4:00 p.m. at Rochester;’s Northern Hills Golf Course. Runners that place in the top 10 in this meet will receive the honor of advancing on to the state cross country meet at St. Olaf College on Saturday November 1st.
