Lauren Ping went two for two to bring home two titles from the Hamline Elite Meet on April 26.

Lauren Ping is one of the top high school runners in the nation, and she’s only in eighth grade, and, oh yeah, she’s my sister.

Ping competed in the 1600 and 3200 at Hamline, and invite only meet that brings together the best track and field athletes in the state.

Ping won the 1600 meter race with 4:50, the fastest time in the state and fourteenth in the nation for the 2019 outdoor season. On top of that, Ping is the top 8th grader in the state for the 1600 meter distance by over 18 seconds.

“I was a little bit surprised by the time I ran in the 1600, but mostly excited,” the eighth grader said.

“She ran really smart- sitting in until surging at 1k and then sitting in again until 150 [meters] to go and flying into the lead. She was really happy with her performance,” said Ryan Ping.

Shortly after her 1600 win, she turned around to win the 3200 in 10:40.

Lauren hopes to return to defend these titles at the State meet in June, which is also held at Hamline.
