Rubie’s improvement helps drive team’s success
Who’s that blondie running up and down the basketball court, draining 3’s and helping her team to another win? Jordan Rubie!
Rubie has emerged as a star this year on a Cotter team that is heading to the section semi-final vs. Lake City on Saturday morning at Rochester Mayo Civic Center Auditorium.
Rubie, a junior at Cotter, began her basketball career in 3rd grade. For the past 8 years, she’s continued the sport alongside her biggest supporters: her parents, Amy and Russ Rubie. Her dad played basketball in high school and her mom played in her childhood years. Ironically enough, Amy’s maiden name is “Amy Ball.”
Jordan is involved in soccer, basketball, and softball throughout the school year. Soccer and basketball are definitely tied for her favorite.
“Our team is bonded so well and we share so many memories together. It feels great to play with a bunch of girls who love the game of basketball.” Rubie said.
Jordan has always been a solid player, but has really improved her scoring this season. Her high game is 21 and she has shot over 40% from 3 pt land for most of the season.\
Jordan’s highlight for the season was beating Zumbrota-Mazeppa on WACS night. Her favorite team to play against was also Zumbrota-Mazeppa along with Lourdes. A challenging game ending in a win is a great feeling for Jordan.
Cotter coach Pat Bowlin has been an extraordinary motivator for Jordan and has been appreciative of her improvement and contributions to the team’s success.
“Jordan has had an incredible year for us. She is one of the top 3 point shooters in the conference but is also outstanding at driving to the basket. Jordan is someone that every team game plans to stop. Along with being our leading scorer, Jordan is leading the team in steals. Her defense has improved tremendously since last year. Without question Jordan is a big reason that our team won a conference championship for the first time since 2009,” Mr. Bowlin said.
“My goal for my basketball career is to really just do my best and be proud of my improvement,” Jordan says.
When Jordan is not dribbling around, she likes to hang out with friends and watch Netflix. Her favorite series on Netflix is, “Grey’s Anatomy.”
However the State tournament ends for the team, that doesn’t mean a goodbye for Jordan Rubie, as you will see her hitting home runs in the spring during softball season.
