Boys Tennis making push towards playoffs

The Cotter boy’s tennis team is having a wonderful season, led by a wide variety of students in the school.

The team is 8-3 this year, and their record puts them towards the top of the section. The team is expected to make a run to Rochester, though it faces in a formidable challenge in Lourdes, the defending section title holders.

Senior doubles player Roger Brosnahan had this to say of the season. “We’ve really had a good season under first year Coach Vic. We’ve had high expectations for the season, and we have found that the team has matched or perhaps exceeded them.”

The team is led by freshmen Ryan Ortega, who has been solid at #1 singles.

“The kid plays like a man, but I did beat him in ping pong, ”   joked Brosnahan.

Ortega is currently ranked 22nd in the state. The team looks to be taken to the promise land behind Ortega’s racket.  Sophomore Tim DeMarais and seniors Cee Jay Shaffner and Miguel Jauregui have also been key contributors.

The subsection playoffs kick off this week for boys across the state. One thing is for sure, the team is “peaking at the right time.”
