Seniors honored at spring band concert
The Cotter band, under the direction of Mr. Andy Meurer, held its annual spring concert on Monday, March 19, in the St. Cecilia theater.
The jazz band opened the show with three songs: “So Easy” by Tadd Dameron”,”Penny for Your Thoughts” by Tom Kubis, and “Honk” Jeff Jarvis.
The concert band followed with four numbers, including “Rough Riders March” by Karl L. Ling, “”Solas Ane (Yesterday’s Joy) by Samuel Hazo, “Sheltering Sky” by John Mackey, and they closed with “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance. The final three songs the band also performed at the section band competition on March 20.
Mr. Meurer paid tribute to the 22 seniors in the band, who he has been working with for four years in marching band and two years as primary instructor.
Louis Armstrong jazz award was given to senior trombone player Nathan Graff. Nathan also was the featured soloist on “Penny for Your Thoughts.”
