Bittersweet Season for the Soccer Team
The girls soccer team had a tough ending to a great season for a young team.
On Tuesday, the girls hosted Red Wing in the first round of playoffs. Cotter was seeded 5 in the section, and the Wingers were 12. Cotter lost a heart breaker 2-1, abruptly ending a tremendous season.
“We scored first, but they scored right after, and we never could really rebound from that,”senior captain Paige Peplinski said.
The girls, however, will not let dropping the first round playoff game define their season.
“Our season went really well, our last game didn’t show how much work and time we put in,” Peplinski said.
Some highlights of the season was going to Paul Giel, due to rain and darkness, to finish the overtime periods of the La Crescent game. Another highlight was tying last years state runner-up team, Dover-Eyota, twice.
The team will have some shoes to fill next year, graduating four seniors:Adamary Rosas, Josie Huelskamp, Frances Young and Paige Peplinski will move on after graduation.
Returning vets like Abby Allen, Grace and Gloria Flanagan, and Mary Morgan will return along with a group of talented underclassmen to keep Cotter’s soccer program on the rise.
