Four earn commended scholar status
Delaney Dvorak, Samuel Graff, Ben Herber, and Ben Windley-Daoust were recognized by Sr. Judy at a recent school assembly for their accomplishment of being named National Merit commended scholars.
Last October, all Cotter freshmen, sophomores, and juniors were required to take the Preliminary SAT.
Throughout the United States, 1.6 million high school students take the PSAT. Then, the National Merit Scholarship Program calculates every student’s score and calculates NMSQT finalists.
Devorak, Graff, Herber, and Windley-Daoust were notified in August that they had qualified for the NMSQT recognition. Then the students found out in September that they had all been named Commended Scholars.
This is a prestigious honor for the four Cotter students, as only 50,000 of the 1.6 million students who take the PSAT qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Cotter counselor, Mr. Steven Stevenson, said he is “proud” of their accomplishments.
“Their scores are reflective of their overall body of work at Cotter,” Stevenson said.
